Sky-watchers will have the opportunity to view a penumbral lunar eclipse the evening of Friday, Feb. 10, and local viewers will be better off watching the astral event in Ridgway.
A penumbral lunar eclipse, often mistaken for a normal full moon, occurs when the moon passes through the outermost part of Earth’s shadow, resulting in darkening around the edges of the moon. This time, the northwest edge of the moon will be shaded.
