Jeep Raffle: Last minute entry is winning play

Chris Bateman (left) knew his girlfriend Kayla Marot (right) needed a new vehicle, so he bought Jeep Raffle tickets online the night before the drawing — and won. The couple picked up their prize Thursday morning (Oct. 13) at the Ouray Visitor's Center.

Who says waiting until the last minute doesn't pay off?
Chris Bateman, 33, of Mancos, Colorado, didn't purchase his Ouray Jeep Raffle tickets this summer with the swarms over Fourth of July weekend. Nor did he purchase them on a trip to Ouray to soak in the Hot Springs Pool in late spring.
No, Bateman and his girlfriend needed a new vehicle soon, so he did what anyone in need does — he took action when action was needed. Bateman spent $100 the night before Saturday's drawing for the 52nd Jeep Raffle, purchasing 35 tickets online.
Turns out, Bateman is quite the problem-solver.
"I've never won anything to this magnitude," he said. "I might have won a raffle for a gift basket."
