Brian D. Kolowich

Brian D. Kolowich, 60, of Bluffton, SC passed away peacefully at MUSC, in Charleston on February 7, 2016 following a courageous battle after suffering an ischemic stroke on January 20. Born in Grosse Pointe Farms November 30, 1955, the third son of Raymond Frederick and Marilynn Convery Kolowich, he graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School, where he was an all- state swimmer. Kolowich attended Tulane University in New Orleans, earning a B.A. in American History. He was a member and chapter president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Upon his graduation in 1977, Kolowich located to Hilton Head Island, SC to begin a career in resort and vacation real estate market. By 1978, he had risen to broker-in-charge of the Harbourtown Sales office of Lighthouse Realty.
In 1979 Kolowich was named President of Development Realty, a division of Austin Construction Co. Kolowich became a partner in Sunbelt Associates in 1981.
Kolowich returned to A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 1984 to pursue an MBA. In June, 1985 he joined the Port of New Orleans as a marketing analyst and rose to Director of Market Planning and Development.
In 1991, Kolowich moved to Ridgway, CO to develop his family’s real estate holdings. By 1992, Kolowich formed Great West Realty & Investment, which added the RE/MAX affiliation in late 1994. By the end of 1995 the company merged with Cimarron Group, creating RE/MAX Cimarron Realty. Most recently, Kolowich pub- lished By His Side, a delightful tale of love and loyalty between man and his dogs.
He is survived by children; Kristin, Allison, Andrew, and Ryan; his first wife of 26 years Kathryn Pash Goetz; and his siblings; Michael, Bradley, Sara Johnson, Thomas, and James; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. A service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held in New Orleans in June.
