Edgar Hotchkiss, age 86, passed away on January 12, 2016 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.
Edgar Raymond Hotchkiss was born on January 16, 1929 in Montrose, Colorado to parents, George Raymond & Margaret (Frink) Hotchkiss. He attended school and graduated from the Colona School. Edgar
furthered his education and attended Colorado State University where he
studied Agriculture. Soon after, Edgar joined the United States Navy and served his country as an aviation
mechanic specializing in helicopters. He married Marian Kearney in 1952 in Fort
Morgan and they moved to California. Once back in Colorado, Edgar worked at Westco Grocers and drove a truck from the Uncompahgre to Durango. He also worked at Woodward Governor Company in Fort Collins.
In 1964, Edgar and his family moved back to Ouray County where he continued the legacy of running his father’s ranch. He was an active member in the com- munity and served on numerous boards including the Tri County Water Users, Ouray Fair Board, Colona Community Church, The Grange and the Wool Growers. He was a 4-H leader and a youth minister.
Edgar is survived by his loving family including chil- dren, Raymond Hotchkiss and wife, Norine; Marjane Trehal and Denise Bailey and husband, Whit all of Montrose, Colorado; sister-in-law, Yasuko Kearney of Fort Collins, Colorado; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Hotchkiss, wife, Marian Hotchkiss; brother, George Harvey Hotchkiss and recently his son-in-law, Tom Trehal.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Edgar Raymond Hotchkiss will be officiated by Paul Nostrum on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10 A.M. at Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors. A reception will follow at Quality Inn. Edgar would have celebrated his 87th birthday on this day.
