Lou Bastian

Lou Bastian, 95, passed away on February 26.  He was a long-time Gunnison resident who had lived in an assisted living facility in Arvada, CO, for the last three years.
Lou graduated from Ouray High School, Class of ’36.  During his years in Ouray he was a miner. He attended Western State College in Gunnison.  Lou enlisted in the United States Army as a Bomb Disposal Technician, earning the rank of Technical Sergeant, serving in World War II where he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon.  Lou retired from the IRS in 1973 and built a home in Gunnison.  Lou was an active Life member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Gunnison for over 40 years and held numerous offices.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Lou was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years,  Belva.  He is survived by his three children, Sandy (Jerry) Sylvester of Sante Fe, NM, Sue (Dave) Petticrew of Arvada, CO, and Scott (Elayne) Bastian of Fullerton, CA; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
There will be a remembrance celebration held in Gunnison for both Belva and Lou late Spring or early Summer.  Details will follow at a later date.
