CITY OF OURAY: Burglars hit local businesses

Police are investigating two burglary cases that occurred in town early last week.

According to Police Chief Justin Perry, the Victorian Inn and Wild Forks Cafe (located at the Hot Springs Pool) reported two separate cases of theft and unlawful entry.
On Tuesday, Aug. 12, around 4:40 p.m., the Victorian Inn reported a theft that likely occurred on the morning of Aug. 11. Police reports state that the criminal entered the business office and stole between $3,000 and $3,500 in cash from the business. There was no sign of forced entry or any damage to the property, but fingerprints have been collected and sent to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for analysis.
Though the crime occurred the morning before, during hours when nobody would have been present in the office, Perry speculated that the business owners may not have known about the stolen cash until the next day when they went to collect the money for deposit.
Perry also noted that video surveillance was available in the hotel area and the police have some leads. The department is currently interviewing suspects and witnesses.
