Stopping in Ouray on July 25 to talk with voters, state Rep. Mike McLachlan made it clear he is ready for a long, hard fight to maintain his District 59 seat against his opponent, Republican J. Paul Brown.
"We can win this election, (but) it will still be difficult," McLachlan told about a dozen people gathered at the Secret Garden in Ouray.
The Durango Democrat acknowledged that this race has been called the "hottest race in the state" and said he expected it to include large sums of money spent by both sides as well as by special interests.
McLachlan described himself as a "workhorse" and a moderate, passing more than 20 bills in his first term and reaching across the aisle to find compromise.
