A handicap accessible fishing pier planned for Crystal Lake, located just south of Ouray above Red Mountain Pass, has yet to materialize due to design and funding issues, but the project still has the support of interested parties.

The U.S. Forest Service, which purchased the lake and the greater Ironton Park area in 2007 with Land and Water Conservation funding for the Red Mountain Project, has already completed an environmental assessment on the project.
The USFS intended for the fishing pier to be installed while the lake was drained in the fall of 2012 for repairs to the dam.
The pier was intended to be built to meet Americans with Disabilities Act wheelchair access standards.
