Once again, the businesses of Ouray have demonstrated their great support for the Ouray Public Library’s Summer Reading Program by donating cash and a variety of great prizes. Alpine Bank, Citizens State Bank and the Ouray Brewery generously donated cash to support the program. The Ouray Library also received prize donations and coupons to be awarded to Summer Reading Program participants from Artisan Bakery, Backstreet Bistro, Duckett’s Market, Gator Emporium, Goldbelt, High Country Leather, Khristopher’s Culinaire, Mountain Fever Shirts & Gifts, Mouse’s Chocolates and Coffee, O’Toys, Timberline Deli and the Wright Opera House. Target (Montrose) also donated five $5 gift cards to award as prizes.
These donations enable us to award prizes to youth who reach their reading goals as well as purchase all the supplies we need to run the program. Thanks to the generosity of the business community, we are able to continue to offer this free program to more than 40 youth every summer.
The free five-week Summer Reading Program, Fizz, Boom, Read!, is open to all rising first- through fifth-grade students. The program runs for five Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. beginning Wednesday, July 9, through Wednesday, August 6. Enrollment is open to residents and visitors alike, and attendance at all sessions is not required. We encourage families to bring their children by the library to enroll in the program and to check out all the fantastic new books available to readers of all ages.
