OURAY COUNTY: Local governments talk pot

In Ouray County, only the Town of Ridgway allows for medical and retail marijuana sales. The City of Ouray and county government currently have temporary moratoriums in place prohibiting marijuana facilities.
The city’s pot future lies in the hands of voters, who will ultimately decide whether or not marijuana facilities have a place within the city limits. Although language for the ballots has not yet been determined, voters will be asked whether they would like to allow retail pot shops in Ouray, whether they would like to allow other marijuana facilities (cultivation, manufacturing and testing) in Ouray and what percentage of an excise tax they want to impose on marijuana sales.
Even though the future is still hazy, the city has decided to take a proactive approach to the issue and draft a general set of regulations for retail marijuana stores should voters approve such establishments.
