Mud season is just around the corner, and while some may wince at the gooey mess that awaits, Ouray County residents will be celebrating the muck at the Second Annual Mud Fest. Ouray Chamber Resort Association President Tamara Gulde said that compared to last year’s event, things will be “much, much bigger” this year. “We’re adding some things that are pretty exciting,” she said. “We promise bigger and better.”

Ouray County: Neighbor to Neighbor offers exercise, community and smiles |

Neighbor to Neighbor is a nonprofit volunteer organization serving Ouray County seniors, disabled and homebound individuals. The program provides transportation for participants from anywhere in Ouray County (roads permitting) for all of their programs, which include senior lunches, walking hours, Polar Bear water aerobics, shopping trips and special events. Neighbor to Neighbor’s van has a lift on the back to accommodate wheelchairs and any other special needs participants may have.

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed three bills in the Colorado Democrats' gun legislation package on Wednesday. HB13-1224, which places restrictions on the sale, transfer and possession of ammunition magazines capable of accepting more than 15 rounds of ammunition or eight shotgun shells, went to the governor after the House accepted Senate amendments and repassed it.

This summer and fall, six young men from Ridway and Ouray high schools will enter the military, becoming students, pilots, infantrymen, engineers, public affair specialists and medics. They will push themselves to physical and emotional depths they currently cannot fathom. They will each honor and serve their country to the best of their ability.
