I was curious about last week's letter from Ms. (Lyn) Meinert. First, I would say that, as we drive around the county, the Padgett signs far outnumber those of Mr. Flowers. Second, is her contention that someone who has not been in politics should not challenge an incumbent who has been in office for some time? That would necessarily preclude any change and dash all hope of the survival of our democratic system. Third, it would seem that Mr. Flowers was kind enough to change the sign that referred to his opponent as a non-native Coloradan, which some found offensive.
I think any candidate has the right to have supporters willing to post his signs as freely as they like, on their own property, of course. But, to say that he has no right to do so, since he has no political background is ludicrous. That would mean we would only have the same council members, mayors, representatives, Senators, etc. ad infinitum: a very dangerous situation, indeed.
