|Standing up for Ouray||| Print ||
To the Editor:
As an annual visitor and avid fan of Ouray, I feel compelled to respond to the bitter editorial submitted by a former Ouray resident in the September 27th issue of the Plaindealer.
The woman, Marianna Steel, was apparently disgusted at having to pay higher rates for the pool as a visiting senior citizen. She also stated that " the town used to be a friendly place to visit but that began changing in the early 90's and has gotten worse." I beg to differ!
My husband and I have taken our yearly vacations to Ouray and will continue to do so indefinitely. We find the hospitality, friendliness, and genuine atittudes of the residents of Ouray to be a breath of fresh air when compared to other small towns we've visited (and lived in). Our tiny rural Iowa town of Wadena has its own "small town issues" as all do. But to only focus on what one perceives as negative and apply it to the entire community in general is simply absurd.
When arriving back in Ouray after an exhilarating day of jeeping, we find ourselves joking about going back "home", which, for the past three years, has been "our" condo room at the Ouray Riverside Inn. We've made some great friends during our stays in Ouray, and always look forward to returning for more adventure, friendship, and relaxation.
I hope you don't let one "bad apple" destroy your perception of your beautiful town. Thank you for allowing us to experience the splendor of your community.
Respectfully submitted, Barbara A. Fox, D.V.M.
