The New Year opens with great promise for the Wright Opera House. As the plans begin for the renovation, one of the major components has been funded, according to the Friends of the Wright Opera House.
Dave Wood and his family have presented a gift of $60,000 to fund the purchase and installation of a much needed elevator as a memorial to Mary Wood. “Mary and David Wood have been avid supporters of the new Wright and had provided significant support for the purchase of the building. Mary had been particularly concerned that an elevator be included in the renovation to increase the accessibility for more patrons,” noted Dee Williams, FWOH Chair. “This is a very fitting memorial to her and her long involvement in the arts in our community. “The elevator is a critical need as we all know. Access to the theater is difficult for many and not available at all for some. This generous gift from the Wood Family is an enormous help as we seek the funding to begin the renovation,” said Williams. “We are beginning the process of writing grant proposals and this gift not only gives us an early start on financing specific items in the renovation but also helps demonstrate to those potential funding sources the strong commitment for this important community project.”
