The public portion of the city council meeting on Monday was brief. Action items for the evening, which all passed unanimously, were repealing Board of Adjustment and transferring duties to the Ouray Planning Commission; granting a temporary liquor permit to the Bon Ton Restaurant and St. Elmo Hotel; and, acceptance of land appraisal and agreement to purchase land from the U.S. Forest Service. The council passed the third item with fervor. The land being purchased from the USFS is the land used for a portion of the Ouray Ice Park. The city's ongoing effort to purchase the land finally ended successfully.
Members of the council gave special thanks to Tim Tucker, co-owner of the Bon Ton Restaurant and St. Elmo Hotel. Tucker, who was present at the meeting, was hailed for the role his restaurant played in Saturday’s ROCC spaghetti dinner. Due to the number of attendees at the dinner, pre-calculated quantities of sauce were depleted, and the Bon Ton stepped up to the plate and replenished sauce supplies. All items on the Consent Agenda passed unanimously. A resolution releasing funds for the city’s water tank project referred to $150,000 that is the remaining balance of a larger sum previously borrowed and earmarked for the project. After approximately 20 minutes, the council adjourned to executive session for legal advice on a specific legal matter.
