Ouray City Council agrees to purchase Ice Park land |

The public portion of the city council meeting on Monday was brief. Action items for the evening, which all passed unanimously, were repealing Board of Adjustment and transferring duties to the Ouray Planning Commission; granting a temporary liquor permit to the Bon Ton Restaurant and St. Elmo Hotel; and, acceptance of land appraisal and agreement to purchase land from the U.S. Forest Service. The council passed the third item with fervor. The land being purchased from the USFS is the land used for a portion of the Ouray Ice Park. The city's ongoing effort to purchase the land finally ended successfully.

Ouray School holds its homecoming this week, starting with the Junior-sponsored soup dinner Thursday at 6:00 p.m. A pep rally follows at 7:00 p.m., then a bonfire in the park at 8:00 p.m. Homecoming games will be on Saturday against Nucla. Girls play at 5 p.m. and boys at 7 p.m. The homecoming dance is Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, with a waffle breakfast immediately following.

OCRA board elects officers, makes plans for year |

The new board of directors for Ouray Chamber Resort Association held its first meeting on Tuesday and elected officers for the coming year. Brandy Ross will serve as president, Tamara Gulde as vice president, Michelle Poirier as secretary and Mike Buhler as treasurer. The board heard from marketing manager Heidi Pankow that OCRA's booth at a travel show in California was successful in showcasing Ouray to frequent travelers. Pankow estimated that the OCRA contingent spoke to over 2,000 people in two days. Ross said one of the board's goals this year would be to ...

Brandy Ross — owner of Switzerland of America — is the new Ouray Chamber Resort Association (OCRA) president. With new blood come new goals and aspirations. Ross is a community driven individual and desires to do what is right for the community that OCRA serves. According to Ross, her vision for OCRA is to continue to expand its role in the community and to utilize other local organizations. “We have a lot of non-profit organizations. Those organizations have similar goals,” Ross said. She feels that when everyone works together it produces a synergistic effect.
