Two small earthquakes centered east of Ridgway Reservoir shook up residents in the early morning of Thursday, May 2. The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the quakes occurred at 7:11 a.m. and 7:16 a.m. "I felt it more from the roof than from the floor," said Sue Husch, who lives just off County Road 12. McLachlan is 66 years old and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. After earning a B.A. in political science in 1970 from Southern Colorado State University and a J. D. in 1973 from the University of Arizona College of Law, he clerked for Colorado Supreme Court Justice Edward Day. He held the positions of La Plata County Prosecutor (1974-1976), La Plata County Attorney (1995-1998) and Colorado Solicitor General (1999 – 2000).
J Paul Brown is 59 years old and was the District 59 incumbent candidate, having served one term. After graduating in 1975 from Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science he married his sweetheart Debbie. Brown has been a rancher all of his life.
He has served on Board of Directors for: Colorado Farm Bureau; Colorado Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company; Centennial Investment Company; Club 20; La Plata County Planning Commission; San Juan Basin Health Board; Colorado Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company
