Moviegoers can vote for Ms. Second Chance 2012 at the upcoming Paws For A Cause! MovieFest this Friday, Dec. 30. The event is taking place at the Main Street Theater (630 Main St.) in Ouray. It is a fundraiser for Second Chance Humane Society and Ouray County Neighbor to Neighbor (senior support program) as selected by the founding sponsor of the event, Alpine Hideaway Lodge. In addition to being able to meet adoptable dogs like Sugar Plum there will be popcorn, soda and tote bags with great local coupons all just for a donation! The selected movies begin at 3:00 p.m. (doors open at 2 p.m.) with the Sound of Music. You can enjoy this visual classic, starring Julie Andrews, on a 30-foot screen – the way it was meant to be viewed. Viewers do not have to attend both movies and can join for the second movie of the night, We Are Marshall, at 7:00 p.m. This poignant story about the dramatic loss of a football team and the rebuilding a community is also perfect for the family and stars Matthew McConaughey. First come, first serve seating will begin 20 minutes prior to each show. Also plan on arriving early to meet the shelter pets, peruse the “PAWS Market” in the lobby offering Second Chance merchandise (including pre-owned DVD’s of various titles from the Thrift Shop), delectable baked goods from Artisan for you and Fido, and the New Year's gift baskets. Or just stop by to learn more about both of these great organizations. Krista Richter of Alpine Hideaway Lodge, who is organizing this event, has done a terrific job in lining up sponsors and has even found a donor willing to provide matching funds up to $1,000 for donations made during this fundraiser. Second Chance is dedicating the money from this event to help purchase a desperately needed animal transport vehicle. Both organizations are urging community members to consider a nice night out at the movies while making a difference. For donations or more info, contact
