Rodeo weekend ahead
Oh, how I love this weekend. I would encourage everyone to come experience some of the many wonderful aspects of my all time favorite local event, the Ouray County Fair and Ranch Rodeo. There will be a lot going on at the 4-H Event Center, the Barn and the Arena from Thursday through Saturday. The open class is really fun. Most all entries are accepted and most all entries win a ribbon! Bring any of your fine entries to compete from 9:00 a.m.- noon on Thursday.
The new grandstands will be officially unveiled Thursday afternoon, followed by the wonderful antique tractor pull that evening. By Friday, the resident barn swallows will be in a terrible twitter over the invasion of their space by lowing steers, talking turkeys, sleeping pigs, growling sheep and at least one crowing rooster.
Friday is full with the 4-H Youth Animal Showmanship and Judging at the Barn and an evening outdoor dance to Opal Moon in the “New Arena.“ Saturday is a great day to see all the animals the youth have raised, some hoping to sell at the Livestock Auction at 2:00 p.m. The hoopla increases with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new arena just before the Ranch Rodeo at 4:00 p.m.
After all that, we hope you still have enough verve to join us for the Labor Day rodeo, the Fireman’s Ball and the parade on Sunday and/or Monday. I no longer tolerate missing this weekend (not even for paying work), because it is so full of the highlights and wholesome aspects of ranching and farming. I hope you don’t miss it, either!
