CITY OF OURAY: Kersen resigns as council returns to RV discussions

Two city council seats must now be filled, as council member Richard Kersen submitted his resignation to the city on Tuesday afternoon.

According to City Administrator Patrick Rondinelli, Kersen will be moving out of the community and will not be able to continue serving as a council member. Kersen told the Plaindealer on Wednesday that he and his family are moving to Montrose, putting him out of the city limits.
Kersen was elected to council in November 2011 and his term was set to expire in October 2015. He added that with former councilor John Ferguson's resignation last month, the timing of his leave "just made sense" so council would not have to go through the same process again in another month or so.
"My time on council has been really good and really challenging. It's been a great experience and I have nothing really negative to say. It was a challenge and something I really liked being involved with," he said.
