TOWN OF RIDGWAY Bus service returns
By Bill Tiedje
With an official ribbon-cutting event on July 23, Road Runner Stage Lines' bus service began a daily route passing through Ridgway in route from Durango to Grand Junction.
The bus will stop in Ridgway at the Visitor's Center.
Clayton Richter, division director of Road Runner Transportation, said, "We think this is something very necessary for the people of Southwest Colorado."
Leaving Durango each morning at 7:00 a.m., the bus will visit Mancos, Cortez, Dolores, Rico, Telluride and Placerville before reaching Ridgway at 10:45 a.m.
The bus will then stop in Montrose and Delta before arriving in Grand Junction at 12:43 p.m.
On the return trip, starting at 1:45 p.m. in Grand Junction, the bus will depart Ridgway at 3:43 p.m. and return via the same route to arrive in Durango at 7:44 p.m.
An affordable solution to transportation in the region, a ride from Durango to Grand Junction will cost $40. A one-way ticket from Ridgway to Montrose will cost $5.
Richter said the bus service will fill a gap created after Greyhound Lines, Inc., discontinued service of their Albuquerque to Salt Lake City route in 2011.
Road Runner Stage Lines is operated by the Southern Ute Community Action Program in partnership with Greyhound Lines, Inc., the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration.
Richter said the Durango to Grand Junction line would use full-sized motor coaches, with a 50-seat capacity.
After a soft-run last week, he said, "The timing on the schedule seems to be working well. As of Thursday, we’re going full bore.”
Tickets can be purchased online or from the bus driver, using cash or credit card.
Richter reminded riders that a separate ticket for Greyhound Lines bus service out of Grand Junction must be purchased for service on other Greyhound Lines routes.
A 10 percent discount is offered for seniors over 55 years old, students with valid ID and all round-trip fares.
