By Sheridan Block
One man is dead after a crash on Red Mountain Pass Tuesday night.
According to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid, the 59-year-old man was driving his 1999 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on US 550 near mile marker 89 around 8:22 p.m., when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a curve indicator sign and skid off the cliff edge.
The driver was ejected from the motorcycle during the fall and the vehicle rolled multiple times before landing on the driver. The unidentified man from Yuma, Ariz., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reid reported that the rider was not wearing a helmet but CSP does not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.
The Colorado Department of Transportation sent out a notification around 9:11 p.m. stating the highway was closed due to an accident. The highway re-opened at 10:51 p.m.
