I have this interesting hardy bird where I live and see this species most of the year. This small, but mighty 4.3 inches in length is the Red-breasted Nuthatch. He is a close relative to the White-breasted Nuthatch, but differs in size and color. The redbreasted sports a black and white line that runs from the base of the bill to the back of his head. The eye is at the center of the black streak. This reminds me of a bandit-like eye mask. His whole chest and belly are red to an orange color.
